One paper, two possible levels: practise the full 70-question TOPIK I format and see whether your estimated score reaches level 1 or level 2.
TOPIK I is the beginner paper of the Test of Proficiency in Korean. It has 70 multiple-choice questions: listening (30 questions, 40 minutes) and reading (40 questions, 60 minutes), 100 minutes in total. Each section is worth 100 points. A total of 80 to 139 out of 200 gives level 1; 140 or more gives level 2. Engame's TOPIK I mock test uses the same 30 + 40 questions and timing and applies the same cut-offs to an estimated score out of 200.
| Section | Questions | Minutes | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | 30 | 40 | 100 |
| Reading | 40 | 60 | 100 |
| Total | 70 | 100 | 200 |
| Section | Questions | Minutes | Task types on Engame |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | 30 | 40 | hear a word, pick how it is written; hear a sentence, pick its meaning |
| Reading | 40 | 60 | read a meaning, pick the word; read a word, pick its meaning; grammar gap-fill; read a text, answer questions |
| Total | 70 | 100 |
Engame converts your share of correct answers to the 200-point scale: score = correct answers ÷ 70 × 200, rounded. The level shown is the highest band your score reaches.
| Level | Real exam cut-off | Correct answers needed (of 70) |
|---|---|---|
| TOPIK 1 | 80/200 | 28 |
| TOPIK 2 | 140/200 | 49 |
TOPIK I is a single exam with two outcomes. The official level descriptions say a level 1 learner can introduce themselves, buy things and order food, using a vocabulary of about 800 words. At level 2 you can make phone calls, ask favours and use public facilities, with roughly 1,500 to 2,000 words.
There is no official CEFR mapping for TOPIK. As a rough guide, level 1 corresponds to A1 and level 2 to A2. Most Korean universities ask international students for TOPIK level 3 or higher for admission to degree courses, so TOPIK I is usually a milestone on the way to TOPIK II.
Do not confuse TOPIK with EPS-TOPIK, the separate test for workers under Korea's Employment Permit System. The two exams have different formats and are not interchangeable.
